Fresh Memory is an education application for studying languages with Spaced Repetition method and flash cards. Its primary purpose is to learn and repeat foreign words. But other areas can be studied as well, for example, country’s capitals, flags, mathematical formulas, and even friends’ birthdays. The study material is stored as collections of flash cards. Fresh Memory has two studying modes: Word drill and Spaced repetition. The Word drill is the classic random browsing of flash cards. It can be used for getting familiar with the cards. The Spaced repetition is the main tool for repeating the cards. It automatically schedules repetition intervals of each card according to its difficulty. This method allows to quickly study any structured material and keep it in memory for a long time.
In Spaced repetition, the user first sees a card question. He thinks of the answer, and opens the correct answer. The user checks if his answer was correct and evaluates himself with grades from 0 to 5. The grades depend on how difficult it was to recall the card. The application then schedules the next repetition of the card depending on the grade. With each repetition, the next interval automatically increases, as the user knows the card better. The repetition intervals may range from several minutes to over a year, without a limit. The easier the card is for the user, the longer its interval becomes. If a card is difficult to remember, it is shown more often so that the user would have more chance to study it. The flash cards are stored in dictionaries. The user himself can create the dictionaries and add cards to them. The application allows to open several dictionaries in tabs at the same time. Multi-sided cards. Paper flash cards have two sides: question and answer. Computer cards can have multiple

Fresh Memory is an application that helps to learn large amounts of any material with Spaced Repetition method. The most important subject is learning foreign words, but Fresh Memory can be also used to learn anything else. The learning data is stored as flash cards and dictionaries. The flash cards may have several fields, and the user controls what combination of fields to learn. The flashcards can have formatted text and images.
- Spaced Repetition
- Import/export to CSV files
- Multi-side cards
- Rich formatting in cards
- Images in cards
- Study statistics
- Configurable fonts and colors
- Configurable studying parameters
It can be hard to learn large amount of new material. Aware of this fact, Mykhaylo Kopytonenko came up with a tool that can help with the learning process. That tool is the free Fresh Memory application that stores the data you need to learn as flashcards and groups the flashcards into dictionaries. Click a button and the application will start to randomly go through the cards in a dictionary. Click another button and the application will start using the spaced repetition method to help you learn.
The Fresh Memory installation file is close to 5MB in size. Run this file and a setup wizard will show up; said wizard will guide you through a few simple steps you need to take to install Fresh Memory on your machine. Anyone who installed an application before should have no problems installing Fresh Memory.
The application’s interface is divided into two sections. To the left the application displays the dictionaries loaded into Fresh Memory. To the right the application displays info on the cards included in a selected dictionary. Several sample dictionaries come bundled with Fresh Memory, so load them to get a quick idea of what the application can do.
Fresh Memory employs two ways to help you learn: Word Drill and Spaced Repetition.
Hit the Word Drill button and it will present a random card from the dictionary you select. Keep going through the cards by clicking the Next button from the bottom right hand corner. Hit the Spaced Repetition button and Fresh Memory will display a flashcard, just that this time the answer is hidden out of sight. Click the numbered buttons at the bottom to rate your experience. Button 1, for example, is “wrong answer; but the question was familiar” while button 5 is “too easy; remembered without any effort.”
Fresh Memory is a great tool that really helps you learn.
Several sample dictionaries or card packs are included. You can create your own dictionary with ease. Dictionary modifications can be undone. Pick between Word Drill and Spaced Repetition. Fresh Memory is freeware.
None that I could think of.

It is important to back up all your valuable data. You can even back up your data from an internet or networked computer. It is better to remove all files from the removable media such as flash drives, memory sticks and other removable media. However, if you do not format the device or erase any file, you cannot use the utility. The Flash Memory Toolkit utility frees you from all the hassles of formatting the device or backing up your removable media.
