Exchange 2007/2010 does not provide any option on the Send Connectors or Transport rules to set sender based routing. RouteBySender for Microsoft Exchange 2007/2010 application allows you to route outgoing emails based on sender group membership or based on the sender’s domain.

Purpose

Exchange 2010 natively does not provide any option on the Send Connectors or Transport rules to set sender based routing.
RouteBySender application allows you to route outgoing emails based on the following parameters:

  • if a sender is a member of the marked group
  • if a sender is NOT a member of the marked group
  • combination of the sender’s and recipient’s domains
  • size of the message
  • Subject line value

Typical scenario of usage

Let’s assume that your Exchange 2010 organization has only one send connector “Internet Connector” using DNS for the address space *. All messages leaving the organization will use this connector. Let’s further assume that you want to route messages from members of a certain group to a smart host instead of using DNS. RouteBySender utility will help you to solve this problem.

Also this program can help if you have a requirement for some users to send their mail to a specific smart host to get delivered across a secure network.

It might be useful for local authorities needed to comply with strict mail routing rules for COCO and Government Connect policies to run this utility.

The application is a transport agent for Exchange server.

Current version: 1.0.0.33

We have an exchange 2010 environment with 2 email domains, lets says 123.com and abc.com. Currently they are all routing through my default Send Connnector to going out.

My requirements is I want to set up two send connectors and configure to used two different ISP’s smart host, so that all mails from 123.com goes through my first send connector using (ISP-A) and abc.com through send connector using (ISP-B)

Exchange 2007/2010 does not offer any option in sending connections or viewing shipping rules to sender-based routing. RouteBySender for Microsoft Exchange 2007/2010 software lets you route emails based on sender group membership or sender domain.

Message tracking records the message activity as mail flows through the transport pipeline on Mailbox servers and Edge Transport servers. You can use the Get-MessageTrackingLog cmdlet in the Exchange Management Shell to search for entries in the message tracking log by using specific search criteria. For example:

  • Find out what happened to a message that was sent by a user to a specific recipient.
  • Find out if a mail flow rule (also known as a transport rule) acted on a message.
  • Find out if a message sent from an Internet sender made it into your Exchange organization.
  • Find all messages sent by a specified user during a specified time period.

Exchange 2007/2010 does not provide any option on the Send Connectors or Transport rules to set sender based routing. RouteBySender for Microsoft Exchange 2007/2010 application allows you to route outgoing emails based on sender group membership or based on the sender’s domain.
